Mona
died on 25th July 2011 aged 92. She was a central
figure in the Southwold Art Circle for very many
years and was its Chairman for 18 of them between
1983 and 2001. She did much to raise the profile
of the society and, with her keen eye for detail,
to generate interest in its wide range of activities.
Mona's own memories of her early days in the Art
Circle may be read on our History
pages.
As
a practising artist, she worked in most of the
traditional media but was particularly known for
her screenprints, monoprints and linocuts. These
allowed scope for a passion for experiment to
flourish within the technical constraints imposed
by her chosen disciplines. Latterly, unlike many
artists of her generation, she was quick to embrace
the arrival of the digital age and to explore
the possibility of using its techniques in her
work. In her final years, most of her work was
produced in this way. Mona never tired of experimenting
with colour, composition and shape and was artistically
active until shortly before her death. |
